Ok, I get it, you have to meet people where they are, and THEY are on Facebook. But Facebook is the antithesis to everything I believe about an Open Web, and I am therefore saying toodle fucking doo to Facebook. If you need to understand why the open web is important, read this post.

The countdown has begun (and is located to the right). Before swarms of my “friends” can fill my wall with “Happy Birthday” wishes that they only remembered because Facebook reminded them, before someone posts a picture of me sucking a margarita through my nose, before I get fired from doing nothing from some bullshit wall post someone else posted, before Facebook can use their facial recognition software to feed information about me to the FBI, I’M QUITTING FUCKING FACEBOOK.

I’ve had it. There is no privacy, people are being censored, organizations don’t even realize that their presence on Facebook can be immediately deleted with a simple ask from the government. I’m putting my money where my mouth is.

You can FIND ME on the open web (drumbeat, diaspora, etc). You can find me on other proprietary websites (linked in, twitter, etc). You can find me IN THE REAL WORLD. Can you tell I’m pissed off? You can google search my name and find me, I don’t need Facebook, and neither do you.

But I’m not trying to convince anyone, I’m quitting Facebook because I’m sick and fucking tired of their big brother bullshit. So the countdown has begun.

And, I will be making a Screencast of myself quitting Facebook, so that should be fun for everyone to watch. How many clicks does it take to quit the Facebook web within the web?
